Cornel Taranu composed several chamber music pieces with saxophone since the early 90’s as Crisalide, Remembering Bartok III., Responsorial II., Laudae etc. Cornel Taranu‘s music is performed in Europe as well as in the US. The Dutch premier of Mosaiken II was in March 2014 with the Ana Stamp (piano), Boglarka Nagy and the Aristo Stringuartet. The live recording above was performed with Estefanía Sánchez (piano) and Aristo Stringquartet in June, 2014 in Bernard Haitinkzaal.
This Cornel Taranu‘s piece uses some fragments of Daniel Kientzy’s saxophone studies. The title „Mosaiken” refers to those fragments. The four movements/ parts have harmonic sustaining elements, like the Romanian folk song named „taraf” in a modal-chromatic way of writing, sometimes with clear folkloric influences.
