The Utopian Studies Society / Europe has some limited funds available to assist with the expenses of attending the Society’s annual conference and presenting work. In accordance with a decision taken at the Society’s Annual General Meeting in 2003, the Committee has allocated a sum of money to be disbursed to appropriate applicants, with the following conditions.

  1. The maximum grant available to any one individual will be €270.
  2. The grant money will be paid retrospectively, after the Paper has actually been presented at the Conference. [Normally, we arrange to pay the grant in cash during the conference].
  3. In the event of the available funds being over-subscribed, preference will be given to Postgraduates and those from groups under-represented in the Utopian Studies community (see below). In addition, members of the USS board and the organizing committee will make assessments of the quality of the submitted abstracts.
  4. Grants will be awarded only once to any individual; previously successful applicants may not re-apply.
  5. The decision of the Chair, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Conference Organiser will be final.

We particularly welcome applications from participants under-represented in the Utopian Studies community, and/or who experience oppression in their lives and/or academic work. This includes, but is not limited to: people of colour; Indigenous people; people with disabilities; and people from working class or poor backgrounds. If you feel you suffer disadvantages in the academic world because of your gender, sexual orientation, the fact that you come from a low-income country, or because you are not a native English speaker, you raise child(ren),  or any other condition that you find  relevant, please state how it affects your academic work in a short statement at the bottom of the form (no more than a paragraph).

Please fill in the application form, and return it as soon as possible, but no later than 23rd March 2020, to Dr Zsolt Czigányik: cziganyik.zsolt@btk.elte.hu

For your application to be considered, please ensure you include your abstract with the application form, and sign/print your name on the final page where indicated.

You will be notified of the result of your application as soon as possible.
